[He sits on the floor, leaning against the wall instead.]

[She slides down to sit on the floor too, with her heels under her bottom. The smile she's offering him is very small.]

... I don't think I've ever lived in a world where I could really count on people to stick around.

[He gives a short laugh.]

I know the feelin'. Least he's not dead, though.

[Her gaze turns down abruptly.]

That's what I keep thinking. I just hope he's okay... somewhere he'll be okay...

[He hesitates before reaching over, rubbing her back.]

He's got to be. He's tough as hell, he'll be all right.

[She leans onto him without any hesitation at all, resting her head on his shoulder.]

I hate not getting to say goodbye.

[He shifts, then, wrapping an arm around her.]

I know. Me too. But-- at least we had him for a bit, you know? At least we know he got outta there.

[Rin rests against him limply. As if she's just had all the starch washed out of her.]

[He sighs.]

Madara seems to think he's fine.

[A pause.]

He scares the hell outta me sometimes.

[Rin nods. Talking about something other than Sasuke is... a bit of a relief.]

I think he's a bit off-kilter... but has he hurt you?

No. I'll give him that, he's never done anythin' wrong.
