[He pauses.]

[And his NV switches off, going into his pocket as he moves out the door. It takes him about half an hour before he arrives, shivering slightly from the cold, and knocks on the door.]

[Rin comes to the door at the knock but doesn't open it. she's already learning.]

[good enough. she opens the door and gestures him in, looking him over.] Sit down. I'll get tea.

[He comes in and kicks off his boots, keeping his coat on for now.]

[he gets a small smile, sweet and soft and fond.] I made it up while you were on your way. Just sit, I'll prepare it. How do you take yours?

[He smiles back briefly, and then blinks.]

With sugar, I think, for you... come on. [she moves through the apartment, stepping into the kitchen, where there's a table set up. it's quite warm.]

[He follows her, glancing around with interest despite himself, and sits at the table. He shifts, uneasy despite himself, and rubs the back of his neck.]

Christ, you keep it neat here. We-- I mean, we kinda try, but.

You're all men! It's only to be expected. [shuffling around, preparing tea and some snacks. Rin has discovered potato chips.] Without a woman's touch...

[A grin at the potato chips-- Jack adores those-- and he begins to relax slightly.]

Oye, we manage without no girlie touch. I cook and everythin', it's great. It's just cleanin' we don't do.

[she puts a bowl down in front of him, and a steaming cup of tea generously dosed with sugar, and sits across the table from him with her own tea.]

Hm, it's good that you can manage. I suppose if you're the ones who've put everything out of order you're the ones who'll know where everything is.

[He nods his thanks and reaches for a chip.]

Exactly! Anyway, it ain't like we leave trash around, cuz if we did we'd get tossed out, I think, since we get complained about already.

Course it is. Real pretty, scared away the monsters and anybody coulda come up to see em up close. But no, course not, Mrs. Downstairs came up to yell and then got all upset when we laughed, so she got the superintendent.
