I see. What percentage of your income do you spend on bills - housing, transport, food, utilities, so on? That's really what matters more.

Percentage - ? I'm not... really sure. I live in Minako's boarding house, and it's not expensive. Utilities, is that stuff like, um...

Heat, water. Basically - it matters less how much you make than how much it costs to pay your bills.

I'm not sure how much I spend on that. I pay rent to Minako and have money left over, but... the precise division, I don't know.

Fair enough. How about, since for now, it's considering simply private tutoring by the educational board, I wave fees and we rediscuss the matter in August when the term starts?

... I'll figure it out. If it supports the school, I'd be happy to pay.

All right. What other subjects do you need or want to cover?

I think I need most help with science and things like that - what we had at home was nowhere near this... advanced. I don't even know what's generally considered the basics here, really.

All right - what I consider the basics - reading and writing, simple maths, reading and understanding bus and subway maps and schedules, basic cooking, budgeting, some history of the island, basic first aid. A bit different than the basics of the island because we are different. After that, it's the requirements for finishing high school.

I've been doing okay on the maps and schedules and working my way around the city, although I still walk a lot - that shouldn't take long. I've managed to learn some cooking stuff too... [She hasn't blown up any more potatoes in the microwave.] Minako and the boarding house people have helped me with the stove, so that should be fine. More first aid would be helpful.

Excellent. What times work for you and when would you like to start?

On those basics - [A brief pause.] Depending on what class I take at the university... I don't know what that schedule is going to be like. I work during the week. Would Saturdays be okay?

Saturdays are fine. And, as I said, it's flexible. If we need to rearrange here and there, it's fine.

Okay. I'll be finishing out the school year and I work afternoons until late, so it might be a while.
